Dear Church Family,

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
Jeremiah 29:11-13

These times call for vision! These times call for commitment! We are living in days of unequalled social and moral ills along with personal and family despair and hopelessness. At the same time, we are living in days of unequalled opportunity for sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. The contrast between darkness and light has never been greater.

The question is: Will the church be a beacon of light in this dark world? Will the church “pull out all the stops” in order to reach a lost and hopeless world with the gospel of God’s grace? These days do indeed call for vision and commitment: a vision for the what the church is to be and do, a commitment to be fully devoted to the vision the Lord is giving us.

For the past 28 years of pastoral ministry, my vision for the church has been that the church would be a home for God’s family and a mission in God’s world. It can be summed up in the Great Commandment and the Great Commission. In the church, believers can love genuinely, pray earnestly, serve wholeheartedly,worship enthusiastically, study diligently, witness boldly and give sacrificially all to the glory of God! It is in the context of the local church that Christ followers can be nurtured and equipped to be a loving family and a fruitful mission.

Carroll and I have responded obediently and with excitement at God’s call and your invitation to be the Senior Pastor of Eastwood Presbyterian Church. We are humbled by God’s call and grateful to Him for the wonderful privilege of serving such a great congregation. With God’s help, in the coming years together, we will grow in our love for Him, for one another, and for a lost world.
